Hi,
The Roman Catholic Church in Spain has, in certain villages, put icons/statues in honour of Saint Mary.
They call her the "Macarena" - what does that mean?
Also, they refer to her as the "Wife of the Holy Spirit" - is that theologically or dogmatically correct?? Can Saint mary be referred to as this?
Thanks

i think it lowers the divinity of the hypostasis; a perversion of the relationship between a human (Saint Mary) and God.
in fact i danced the 'macarena' with some spanish and french exchange students at a children's disco around the year 2000. it was very popular, but of course, i didn't understand the lyrics as they were in spanish (i didn't hear the american version).
if this website is accurate:
http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=2402
it is actually a song about loose sexual morals inspired by a flamenco dancer and the name of a district of seville (macarena, which means 'mother of God')
so i was blaspheming and encouraging child sexual activity at the same time! :o
next time i'll get a translation of any music i listen to...

Wow, I did not know these facts.
