i think it was mainly b/c he was at the matches and the celebrations etc- the hooliganism aspect mostly. as the article said the church authorities reacted a lil bit condescending and facist like.
the priest is a huge icon for the fans, and since he is a priest im guessing thats why they called him god. but i doubt there is any real meaning of him being god incarnate in that.

I have heard of Papa PAOK before, but did not know he was getting in trouble for his actions and notoriety.
