Abouna goes around the Church before the reading of the Pauline Epistle, because St. Paul went around the world spreading the Gospel. I believe, in the old days the people would give abouna prayer requests and also confess as Abouna pass them by.

Just as the Israelites marched around the city of Jericho 7 times and on the seventh day the walls of the city fell down so does Abouna proceed around the church 7 times including the processions inside the altar to represent the Israelites possession of Jericho.
