A thread about trees

edited July 2009 in Coptic Orthodox Church
Okay, so I came across this picture which really confused me:

I hope you guys are familiar with this monastery in Wadi El Natrun (it's the Syrian's Monastery).

What was confusing me is where it says, "Tree of St. Ephrem," which is referring to this miracle mentioned in the 4th paragraph here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syrian_Monastery#Medieval_history

But all my life I thought that tree was the Tree of Obedience which grew from St. John the Dwarf's staff:

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. . . . .  ???

Here is the link for its picture since it's too large to post here:

I remember I tried jumping to grab a few leaves, but some kid told me to stop :(

  • Other famous trees:

Virgin Mary's tree in Cairo (where the Holy Family sheltered during their flight to Egypt):

  • St. Barsoum's tree:

At the end of 1995, during a clean-up of the land of the monastery, a palm tree was discovered. Its trunk branches into three at the height of 1.70 m. Normal branching in palm trees occurs at the base of the trunk. Therefore, this tree is thought to resemble the Christian faith in the Holy Trinity–three in one and one in three.
In the name of God and prayers to him, a lot of miracles happen even in the present day.
May his blessing be with us all, Amen

  • Moses' burning bush:

its saint Ephraim's Tree... lets think of why...

Saint Bishoy lived in the same community with saint John the short... and saint Ephraim was walking to saint Bishoy's cell to visit him, and he left his stick close by, because he saw it inappropriate to walk on a Great saint with his stick... so lets go back to saint John, he use to walk for a GREAT distance... they say miles upon miles... now how far is the stick from saint Bishoy's cell? around 250 feet! so according to common sense if its one or the other... it would have to be saint Ephraim's stick!

nice thread, i like it btw... I hope we answered your question...

    akhadna el baraka... neshkor Allah!

    Ah!
[quote author=Wiki]John obeyed and went on watering it twice a day even though the water was about 12 miles from where they lived.
Interesting. . .but 12 miles *from where*? From the Syrian Monastery, is this where he lived? I'm guessing yes, since he lived beside St Beshoy... lol, where is St John's cave??

    I wonder where St. John's tree is. . .

The tree of Saint John the Dwarf, known as the Tree of Obedience, still exists today in the deserted Monastery of Saint John the Dwarf in the Nitrian Desert.

I never heard of St John's Monastery...
