Fine Linen

edited June 2009 in Faith Issues
What in the world is fine linen? is wearing my beautiful stylish jumper/ jacker or shirt which I have come to like a bit regarded as fine linen?

Hey I realised this is the wrong forum or thread. I should have put it in random or youth topics. Its too late now.. Can you just answer it anyway

What was wrong with the man in the parable who wore fine linen everyday and ate good meals everyday? apart from rejecting poor lazarus?

  • it was his heart that was wrong.
in modern terms it would be like rushing to the shops every sale to get yet another item of clothing and the latest shaver and spending an hour in front of the mirror before going out.
instead we should spend time in prayer and Bible study and only go shopping to look after our body after we have looked after our spirit. there is nothing wrong with looking good, but we should aim to have a beautiful spirit and an average appearance, not getting tempted by all the latest fashions and wasting our time on these things.
you will find that if you care for the poor, (if you yourself are poor, then care for the 'other poor'), study the Bible, spend time in church and work/study to provide for your family, then you won't have so much spare time to spend on shopping or entertaining yourself with television etc. it is a matter of priorities, and the rich man had his priorities totally wrong, because, even though he had more than enough, he failed to help his poor, sick neighbour who he passed every day as he left his house.
  • Mat 6:30-33  Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

This seems to be more of the same sort of teaching from Our Lord.

    Father Peter
