Hiten for St Pistavros

edited December 2007 in Hymns Discussion
As today is the feast day of the great martyr, St Salib, I have taken the liberty to record a hiten for him given that there appears to be nothing on net for him at all. I have recorded the hiten in Coptic followed immediately by the english. It may be downloaded from here:

Here are the lyrics:

Hiten ni evki ente piveri em-marteeros pi-athloforos fi-ethooab pi-estavros, ep-chois...

Through the prayers of the New Martyr, the Victorious, the Holy Saint Salib, O Lord....

May his prayers and blessings be with us all. Amen.

  • Hey Iqbal thanks for that, but the recording stops in the middle of it, and is that your voice it sounds really nice
  • Try this one:

You just have to wait 5-10 seconds for it to perform a virus scan.
  • Thanks its working now, is that your voice? who ever it is, its really good
  • IQBAL,
We have his relics at my church, and what we say is

Hiten ni evchi enti pi athloforos em martiros, fee ethouab pistavros em varee, eptchois................
  • Well first of all, the adjective "new" is definitely pronounced veri not varee. The Coptic is: [coptic]beri[/coptic].

Secondly, and I wouldn't consider myself even adequate in Bohairic yet (my focus is on Sahidic atm) so I am open to correction, but the way you have written it seems to indicate that "new" is qualifying the name of the Saint, when in fact it should qualifying his status as martyr. He is "St Pistavros, the new martyr", not "the martyr, the new St Pistavros." Like I said, I am open to correction on that point though.
  • Iqbal, maybe the pronunciation of the words like the english letters i put down for coptic is wrong, i'm just kind of sounding it out as i hear it. ya i'm not an expert on coptic. When i get home, i'll type the actual coptic letters.

he says writes it the way he hear it becuase most people who read the [coptic]e[/coptic] reads it as [coptic]a[/coptic] in most of the words. especially if you are reading from coptic-arabic which uses the 'Alef'.

i have to go with Iqbal on this.
    It's:
    [coptic]+ Twbh `mP=o=c `e`hryi `ejwn@ w niberi `mmarturoc@ Pi`ctauroc nem Arcenioc@ `ntef,a nennobi nan `ebol.[/coptic]
+ Pray to the Lord on our behalf, O new martyrs, Pistavros and Arsenius, that He may forgive us our sins.

As in the te Commemoration f Saints
  • Hiten nieu,y `nte pia;lovoroc `mmarturoc vye;ouab pi`ctauroc `mberi

that's how we say it, i got it right out of our deacon's handbook. And i'm not saying i'm right, it's just that's what we say.
  • The coptic on your post did not show up just so you know

whih doesn't make since as Iqbal said. If we would say a hetini, we would just say it this way:
    [coptic]Hiten ni`eu,y `nte niberi `mmarturoc@ Pi`ctauroc nem Arcenioc@ P=o=c....[/coptic]

and of course Iqbal's one is a good.
