To put it very simply Ancestral Sin is the Orthodox terminology to what what Wester Christianity's refer to as Original Sin. Ancestral Sin, as the term indicates, is the sin committed by our ancestors Adam & Eve. According to the Orthodox Teaching we live in a fallen world where it is easier to sin as a result of our Ancestors (hence we “suffer the consequence of their sin”) but we are not guilty of their sin. On the other hand Original Sin states that all of mankind has sinned through Adam & Eve (hence guilty of their sin).
