Are we talking about embryonic stem cell research? In which those embryos are destroyed in order to extract the totipotent stem cells used in research?
If so, I'm certain the Church is against this.
If life starts at the moment of conception, then just like abortion, such an act is murder.
Are you talking about the extraction of adult multipotent stem cells from the bone marrow or spinal cord, for example?
I'd imagine that would be viewed in the same was as organ donation: perfectly fine, and likely a good deed if it ends up saving someone's life.
