Christians Massacred over a Rumour!?

The excuse given to these recent attacks (in Alexandria Egypt, 1/1/11) is that there is a false rumour going around that 2 women have converted to Islam and are being held, under their free will, in Coptic monasteries.

I just saw video clips of them admitting that they've never converted to Islam. But all this over a rumour? The killing of 70 Iraqi Christians and 23 Coptic Christians OVER A RUMOUR!!!!

OK.. my question is this:

Why don't the women come out and just say what happened? Surely nothing will happen to them.

Are they scared that if they admit that they've never been a muslim then they'd be killed for apostacy? or for "insulting Islam" for not being a muslim.

Can someone tell me why the Church just doesn't ask these women to go on National TV and tell their story ONCE AND FOR ALL!!

it is the 'surely nothing will happen to them' idea that makes you think it would be easy for these women.
however, i am sure it would not be easy at all. even if they come out publicly (and then are probably harmed by their enemies), this would not stop satan hating the church and there would be some other ridiculous excuse used to massacre innocent people.

Zoxasi, they are just using this to have an excuse to attack the church, if they went out and talked, there would still be a bomb. They just want to make it seem that they are doing inhumane acts for a reason and not just out of cold blood.

But the Church tried that.. while the Pope and the Church knew this will hardly change the sticky evil attitudes of the extremists. Furthermore, not one of these women left their Christian faith; plus one of them is a CO priest's wife and exposing our women to dangerous harassment by possibly some badly intentioned media means risking their safety and their families'. The extremists, but not all the people, humiliated all the COC and the Pope himself, they did not even show a minimum of ethics.

There were some other women who did convert earlier in time either willingly or were intimidated into doing that, others were victims who refused to and were fortunately rescued, though many were raped, some were forced to a marriage under threats. The Church accepts back any person who was victimized or repenting, it cannot close the door. The Church also respects the decisions of those who want to leave by their own free will. Each case is a delicate yet complex one and may be very different.

Everybody everywhere please just conform to and follow closely our Pope Shenouda's wise approach to the problem. Let us all pray to Our Lord Jesus Christ for the safe guarding of the COC congregations everywhere. Pray that the Lord may abolish the evil counsels made against us. Amen.

What I've heard and have been told that...
Once upon a time, there was a priest, his wife and another lady.
The priest's wife got in a fight with him and said that she is going to her parents house.
It seems that on her way there her and the other lady where kidnapped and raped and
had to convert to Islam. They have seem to have returned and where under the protection of the church.
The muslims say that that is against their will but the church says that it is their will.
They DID go on TV and did proclaim that they wanted to be Copts but the muslims STILL say that they are pressured.
This is what I have heard but then again, I could be wrong. But I KNOW that it is NOT a rumour
