Order of the General Funeral :: ترتيب الجناز العام

When the service is prayed after the Hosanna Sunday liturgy, it is to be prayed in the annual rite:

+ The priest begins with “Eleison emas” and the prophecy is read.

+ The priest prays the Prayer of Thanksgiving as usual and the people chant the Verses of Cymbals of the funeral followed by psalm 50 (51).

+ The priest prays the Litany for the Sick followed by “Graciously O Lord,” “Doxa Patri .. ke neen...,” “Ten-ou-osht” and the Pauline Epistle, all in the annual tune.

+ Then the Hymn of the Trisagion is chanted and the Litany of the Gospel is prayed followed by the psalm and the gospel, all in the annual tune.

+ The priest prays the Three Short Litanies followed by the Creed.

+ Then the priest prays the Litany for the Departed and the three absolutions and concludes the prayer as usual.

When the service is prayed at the Ninth hour (3 p.m.), it is to be prayed in the paschal rite:

+ The priest begins with “`Eleison emas” and the Prayer of Thanksgiving as usual and the people chant the Verses of Cymbals of the funeral followed by psalm 50 (51).

+ The priest prays the Litany for the Sick followed by “Graciously O Lord,” “Doxa Patri .. ke neen...,” and the prophecy is read.

+ The people chant “Tenou-osht” and the Pauline Epistle in the paschal tune with the paschal introduction, “Ethve Ti-anastasees.”

+ Then the Hymn of the Trisagion is chanted and the Litany of the Gospel is prayed followed by the psalm and the gospel, all in the paschal tune.

+ The priest prays the Three Short Litanies followed by the Creed.

+ Then the priest prays the Litany for the Departed and the three absolutions and concludes the prayer with the paschal conclusion.
