Here is what St. John Chrysostom says:
"Here he renders his testimony free from suspicion, by showing that it was not from human friendship, but had been caused by divine revelation. '"I knew Him not,'" he saith. How then couldest though be a trust…
Gabriella,
If you are the only girl that knows anything than lead the tasbeha. I just want to mention two things:
1) Do not become cocky and show off but aid in the spirit of love. Remember that you are praying and not showcasing yourself!
2) Do …
This hymn is separate from E-Parthenos. It is not a continuation or second part, but a separate hymn altogether. Unfortunately, the tune of this hymn was lost and what Cantor Ayad did was take the words and apply the tune of E-Parthenos to it. This …
These feelings you have are subjective and are caused by a lack of understanding concerning the Midnight praise. I will refer you to the following link which I encourage you to read in order to understand the spirituality behind the Midnight Praise.…
Ioannes,
I am happy to see you reviving the sayings of the fathers. Please continue to enlighten us by your postings regarding the true orthodox doctrine and how we, as simple folk, can approach these heretics through an intelligible debate. Please…
Thanks guys for the links! I am however looking for something specifically for the Kiahk Midnight praise. My lesson got delayed so I still have time to prepare, any kinds of contemplations on certain hymns would be great!
Your not looking hard enough, they are there in the following verses:
Pray to the Lord on our behalf, Philopater Mercurius (Abu Sefien), Abba Mina, and Abba Victor ; that He may forgive us our sins.
and
Pray to the Lord on our behalf, O struggle…
It is a legit hymn. If you listen to the long Teoi (not super long) then you will find this tune chanted towards the end. You can find the link here: http://tasbeha.org/media/index.php?st=Praises/Midnight_Praises/Institute_of_Higher_Coptic_Studies,_…
I am in the same exact boat. In fact, I asked this question many times to my FOC. There are a couple of things that I have learned. The first thing was to come to the realization that God needs to be the focal point in everything that you do in your…
This is an alternative tune. Some people say it during Lent, but it can be said whenever. The only tunes for this is the morning doxology tune as well as this one.
God bless
anyone have a clue if there is a madeha out there for this occasion? i heard we can say hymns like kata nikhoros and eparthenos but i do not see the actual rite for it...
I do not see a contradiction.
The second verse seems to indicate that there was pain before the birth and the first verse tells us that the actual birth was painless.

Actually, you can say both the Adam and Vatos Aspasmos for any Liturgy regardless of the day. In this case, the words "Adam" and "Vatos" refer to the tune only. However when referring to the verses of cymbals; we have Adam and Vatos not to different…

Cephas,
I already agree with everything you wrote. Perhaps my questions are not very clear but I will try to rephrase what I am saying. Christ Himself already sufficed the renewing of our nature by His incarnation and resurrection. Why must one (wh…
I have read On The Incarnation. I just don't understand why someone would have to be judged based on "ancestral sin." We are not accountable for their mistakes. Christ already had renewed us and glorified our nature through His incarnation and Resur…
Understood. This brings me to ask if St. Mary was sinless (excluding "original sin") according to the church. If she was, then why is it necessary for her to go through judgement? References would be nice!

Since there probably is no reasoning with your priest, my suggestion would be to make the best out of it. You will eventually grow to love the hymns when chanting them in English; but it must start by changing your attitude towards it.
It is not meant in a literal sense. Obviously God did not actually harden his heart. There are other verses in the Bible that also are not meant to be taken in a literal sense. An example would be how God repented or was sorry for creating man. This…

I think maybe, in terms of will, Jesus was saying he does not want to suffer, as NO REAL human WANTS to feel pain, him asking the father if there is any other way to do …
